LSU Wins 2008 District 7 National Student Advertising Competition.

LSU placed first in the 2008 District 7 National Student Advertising Competition held recently at the 2008 AAF-District 7 Spring Convention in Chattanooga.

Each year, a corporate sponsor provides a real-life case study outlining the history of a product and its current advertising situation. Student teams are charged with developing an integrated communications campaign, then pitching it to the client in front of a panel of judges. There is no better way to learn about the advertising campaign process than by actually developing a campaign for a real client.

AOL, a global leader in Web-based businesses, is the 2008 NSAC sponsor. The LSU student team will advance to the national competition as the AAF-7th District representative at the AAF 2008 Conference in June in Atlanta.

Ad Fed Introduces the Ralph Sims Advertising Education Award of Excellence.

AAF-Baton Rouge presented the first annual Ralph Sims Award of Advertising Education at the May luncheon to the man himself -  Ralph Sims. Ralph has been an active member of the Advertising Federation of Greater Baton Rouge since 1965. He served as President in 1967-68 and was honored with the Goldsby Award in 1973. As a retired Senior Vice President of Marketing at Fidelity National Bank, Ralph continues to keep up with the innovations in the advertising industry through his involvement and activity with AAF-BR.

In honor and recognition of Ralph’s achievements and contributions to our club, the AAF-BR will present an annual award of excellence to an advertising professional in the Baton Rouge area who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and mentoring of area college and university students in the fields of advertising, design and related fields.

Gerald Bower Wins Bolton-MacVicar Award
Gerald Bower was awarded the Bolton-MacVicar Award at the 2008 AAF-7th District Spring Convention in Chattanooga.

The Bolton-MacVicar Award was named after 1967 7th District Governor Fred MacVicar and Jack Bolton, '67 President of Atlanta Advertising Club for establishing the first Student Advertising Competition in 1967. The competition was the result of the desire to provide a realistic learning experience for college advertising students. Realizing the success of the competition in motivating and teaching students entering the advertising profession, 7th District leaders successfully lobbied AAF leadership to adopt this competition, which has become the National Student Advertising Competition.

Congratulations Gerald!
