Baton Rouge ADDY® Awards
ADDY® Awards are the advertising industry's largest and most representative creative competition. Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local awards are the first of a three-tiered national competition. Also presented at the Advertising Awards are the prestigious E.A. "Pete" Goldsby and Silver Medal Awards. 2008 ADDY Award Winners.

The E.A. "Pete" Goldsby Award
The highest personal award presented by AAF Baton Rouge is the Pete Goldsby Award, presented each year to the person who has made the greatest contribution to the advertising profession. Nominations are submitted by members, and a selection committee, consisting of seven members in good standing appointed by the President, reviews the nomination letters for the various candidates.The Goldsby Award is named for the late E.A. "Pete" Goldsby. Mr. Goldsby was the advertising manager of the State-Times Morning Advocate and gave most generously of his time and talents to the advertising profession as well as many civic, fraternal, and charitable activities. After his death in 1954, the Board of Directors established the Goldsby Award, to be presented to worthy recepients for outstanding contributions in the interest of advertising.

Basis of the Award
  • Overall contributions to the advertising profession
  • Contributions to building a better Baton Rouge, especially through projects
  • which promote the civic good through advertising
  • Continuing contributions towards the development of young people entering the advertising profession
  • Contributions need not have been made in the year of the nomination,
  • and should be based on a lifetime accumulation
  • The current President of this organization is ineligible during his/her tenure as President
  • Need not be a current or past member of this organization to be eligible
  • Nomination should be typewritten or neatly handwritten stating your reasons for nominating your choice for the Goldsby Award. Remember that detailed information can help the judges in making their selection. The Goldsby Award winner will be selected on the basis of the facts presented in the written nomination, plus any additional information easily available to the Goldsby Selection Committee.

Nomination are accepted in the Winter and announced at the Baton Rouge Advertising Awards.

The Silver Medal Award
The Board of Directors present the Silver Medal Award annually to the member in good standing who has given the most toward the betterment of
AAF Baton Rouge and its activities during the previous calendar year.

Current Member in good standing
  • Contributions and accomplishments to AAF Baton Rouge for the current calendar year
  • The President is ineligible for the year of presidency served to the organization, as well as past recipients.
  • Nomination should be typewritten or neatly handwritten stating your reasons for nominating your choice for the Silver Award and list their accomplishments within the past year. Remember that detailed information can help the judges in making their selection. The Silver Award winner will be selected by the current board of directors, based on the information provided in the nomination letter.

Ralph Sims Award:  shaken, not stirred
Ralph Sims has been an active member of
AAF Baton Rouge since 1965. He served as President in 1967-68 and was honored with the Goldsby Award in 1973. As a retired Senior Vice President of Marketing at Fidelity National Bank, Ralph continues to keep up with the innovations in the advertising industry through his involvement and activity with AAF-BR. He was recently inducted into the LSU School of Journalism Hall of Fame.
 
In honor and recognition of Ralph’s achievements and contributions to our club, the AAF-BR will present an annual award of excellence to an advertising professional in the Baton Rouge area who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and mentoring of area college and university students in the fields of advertising, design and related fields. The Board of Directors will solicit nominations in March of each year and vote for the winner – with input from Ralph of course -- at the April board meeting.
